Stephen Chahn Lee

Welcome to my professional world. My name is Stephen Chahn Lee, and I bring decades of experience as a lawyer, investigator, and journalist to my work representing people facing healthcare fraud investigations and cases.

Back in high school, I intended to become a doctor, just like my father. But I found myself drawn into the world of journalism as a reporter and as an editor. I worked for my weekly high school newspaper and my daily college newspaper, and I also worked for the Dallas Morning News and the Chicago Tribune. I left journalism as a career-long ago, but I have done a lot of writing since then, including a website that was once called “smartly written and scrupulously sourced” in the New York Times, a Substack newsletter about real-life and fictional investigations, and an analysis of the Sherlock Holmes canon that was featured in Harper’s magazine.

From Reporting to Advocating: My Legal Evolution

After law school, I worked at the international law firm Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, working closely with experienced former prosecutors on high-stakes investigations and cases. I first applied data analytics to my cases there, doing so long before anyone talked about “big data.” From 2008 to 2019, I served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois. There, I pursued justice through 17 trials, more than 20 appellate arguments, and even a representation before the Supreme Court, deepening my commitment to the legal profession and its foundational principles.

I started my solo practice in 2022, focused on helping people facing criminal charges involving healthcare fraud and the Anti-Kickback Statute. I bring all the skills and experience from my time as a prosecutor to helping correct and counter overreaching investigations whenever possible.

Beyond legal victories, my life is woven with family and community involvement. I celebrate my heritage and help other lawyers with their cases and future lawyers with their career development.
